Organic Mimi

Bio: Hi there! I'm Jennifer, aka "Organic Mimi", and it is my passion to help others live simply and organically with tips, timely articles, current health news, real whole food recipes, organic beauty, organic house cleaning, and natural remedies. My journey started 20 years ago upon the birth of my third and last child. My first child was born August of '93 and was born a month early via emergency c-section due to abruptio placenta. Sixteen months later in December 1994, I had my second son who was another unplanned c-section (he was a big boy), then after being induced a week early with my youngest March 1996 and winding up with yet another c-section after more than 24 hours of being in labor with no progress, I had my tubes tied. I had been unsuccessful nursing my first child, but my second son nursed for 6 months before weaning himself, so I was thrilled when my youngest son took to nursing quite easily and nursed for nearly 2 years! I don't know how I would have made it those 2 years if he had been bottle fed because my thyroid crapped out on me in a big way. Having a newborn and 2 toddlers on top of a crashing and undiagnosed thyroid condition took a major toll on me; I had zero energy, was sleeping most of the time, had no stamina, my hair stopped growing and was coming out in handfuls. My mom, who was a former nurse, urged me to go to the doctor after more than 5 months like that and going further and further downhill. September 1996, the family doctor diagnosed me with severe hypothyroidism and prescribed Synthroid. It did help. For a while. In 1999 and 2000, I found a holistic doctor that ran every blood work possible. Diagnosed me with EBV (Epstien Barre Virus) and Hashimoto's thyroiditis. She referred me to a ob/gyn as she discovered I had a severe infection and upon my visit with the gyn, was found to have a severe reproductive infection and was put on doxycycline for 2 weeks. My next visit found the infection had not gone, so the doctor prescribed cipro for a week. My third visit showed the infection still hanging on but greatly diminished, so he put me back on doxycycline for another week. My next visit to the holistic doctor was good as tests came back on a more positive note and she put me on a synthroid/cytomel compound. But then she moved. No other doctor I could find would let me stay on the compound medication (that was working much better for me) and I was put back on synthroid. I began having severe digestive issues, skin issues, severe allergies, was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and my resting heart rate shot up and caused me to feel like I was literally having heart attacks. Was prescribed beta blockers to lower the blood pressure, given nexium and protonix, then pepcid for stomach issues, antidepressants/anti-anxiety drugs for the postpartum depression & anxiety attacks and steroid based creams for my skin rashes. And the response to my weight was "Eat less and exercise more." Never worked. My boys suffered health issues over the years as well: eczema, chronic seasonal allergies, repeated ear infections, digestive issues, and the list goes on. Not until the last few years when my immune system started attacking itself harder and more viciously did I start questioning the doctors and the medicines they were prescribing and really beginning to look at my diet. Food I grew up on no longer agreed with me. In fact, they were making me downright sick. No longer can I enjoy nightshade fruits and vegetables (tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, eggplant, paprika, msg...). The last bout nearly landed me in the ER. Giving credit where credit is due, my body reacting so violently after years of being mostly okay on food caused me to start researching just what the holistic doctor diagnosed me with over 15 years ago, this Hashimoto's thyroiditis, and discovering it has so much more to do with the food we are eating that I began delving deeper and deeper into the organic world. It has been extremely alarming to discover that our food is being polluted and manipulated and is the cause of so many diseases plaguing this world today: cancer, diabetes, ADHD, autism, Celiac disease, autoimmune diseases...all caused by the food we are being fed and the vaccines being forced on us, our children and our grandchildren. This knowledge is empowering because it is a motivator to healthier eating. Choosing organic food and organic body products as well as house cleaning products has made a drastic difference: I've had 80 pounds melt off in the past 2 years with no effort, skin problems have disappeared, upper respiratory problems have gone, and the digestive issues I dealt with for over 20 years have gone. This life-changing experience has made me want to help others to make the transition to organic living much easier and more pleasant than it was for me and to share my own journey with you. As Ferris Bueller would say: "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." It does. Life moves at an alarming pace and is constantly changing and we grow and change along with it. Let's make a change for the better! I have had the privilege of having worked as a pharmacy technician for a short time in the past as well as taking courses for nursing (yes, I had wanted to be a nurse at one time), but I'm not a licensed nutritionist nor am I a professional in any way. I'm just a mom and very-soon-to-be mimi who is extremely passionate about healthy living and creating a healthy life for those I love and want my grandchild (and future grandchildren) to grow up with healthy foods and products! However, I'm just one person, one voice, and will never be able to change this world alone. That's where Y'ALL come in! Together, we CAN make a difference. Moms, grandmothers, aunts, sisters, daughters, even dads, grandpas, uncles, brothers, nephews, cousins... We can control the majority of food dollars spent on this planet. My goal? To help educate and provide up-to-date information so that we can make healthy choices and change this world for the better. I want that to be our legacy. To be "Organic Mimi", "Organic Mama", "Organic Papa"... the healthy change in this world. To leave this world better than we find it. To not let the statistics win: our children may be facing "lower life expectancy" than they have in many generations, but we can stop that! Now, it's Y'ALL'S turn! Tell me about yourself and the journey you're on. I would LOVE to hear your story! Jenn
